- Author(s)

- Abstract
- The demand from older people for public housing is yet to peak, they have higher and changing expectations, many will need support, and their housing units are too small and below community standards. State and Territory Housing Authorities (SHAs) are facing a range of major policy, management and practice challenges as the number of older person tenancies increases. This research project aims to develop a profile of older public housing tenants, identify housing policy and management issues associated with older tenants, and explore linkages to support services for older people. It looks at the characteristics and housing circumstances of older public housing tenants, the likely future demand for public housing from older people, the housing policy and management issues associated with older tenants, the SHAs' role and responsibilities in linking older people to support services, and examples of good practice and policy initiatives among social housing providers in Australia and overseas.
