- Abstract
- Considering the prevalence of family business around the world, and the amount of research conducted on these business organizations, it is surprising that the contribution of women is still perceived in a traditional light, stereotypically associated to the home and family. This paper proposes that their role needs to be studied within' a new framework, which focuses on an 'integrated perspective' (family, community and business), The study, based on empirical data gathered from interviews with women involved in successful family businesses in Australia, reveals that the main aspects related to their role are the asymmetrical positions of the female and male figures, women's contribution to family culture, and the advantages that women have when working in a family business.
