- Abstract
- Swinburne University of Technology in South-Eastern Australia is adapting to the needs of a highly competitive education market by emphasis on principles of innovation, globalisation, entrepreneurship and the leveraging of intersectoral advantage. As a result, staff are working to emphasise even more practical application of business learning. This paper describes two cases of undergraduate business teaching initiatives which address the use of a business new venture competition, and the provision of ‘students as (marketing communications) consultants’ to industry, both involving third year undergraduate students. Common elements to emerge from these cases include the crucial role of lecturing staff in such initiatives and the creative leveraging of previously unexplored resources towards the enhancement of real world student business experience.
