- Abstract
- Developing and testing network protocols requires analysis and testing at many different levels of abstraction. This paper describes WAN-in-Lab, a networking testbed consisting of carrier-class routers and 2400km of real OC-48 optical links, within a controlled laboratory environment. This fills the gap between emulation and tests on production networks. Delays can be varied by switching out sections of fibre using a MEMS optical switch. WAN-in-Lab has been used for the development of the FAST TCP and MaxNet protocols. It is also available as a research tool for the wider networking community.
