- Title
- Two aspects of potential unfairness in tennis singles
- Author(s)
- Pollard, Graham; Pollard, Geoff
- Abstract
- Several different types of equivalent players are identified in this paper. 'Identical', 'symmetrically identical', and 'equal' players are defined. The tie-break game is shown to be unfair for 'identical' players but fair for 'symmetrically identical' players, whilst the 'no-ad game' is shown to be unfair for players who are merely 'equal'. Simple solutions to these unfairness problems are given.
