Abstract: Panels comprised of leading academics and industry professionals discussed the significant challenges facing library practitioners and policymakers with a focus on the themes of the changing nature of the digital divide, libraries and digital literacy, and the changing technological, business and regulatory environments surrounding public libraries. In addition, Dr Vivienne Waller and Dr Ian McShane and Professors Julian Thomas and Denise Meredyth reported on the results of The Searchers project. This three year SLV-Swinburne initiative funded by the Australian Research Council examined the strategic challenges for major public libraries presented by the development of on-line information provision.
