- Abstract
- Mechanical properties of three kinds of open-cell Mg alloys; a cellular Mg alloy with random cell structure (type A), a cellular Mg alloy with controlled cell structure for which an angle between the struts and the load direction is 45° (type B) and a cellular Mg alloy with controlled cell structure for which an angle between the struts and the load direction is 0& 0176; (90°) (type C), were investigated by compressive tests. The type C showed the higher collapse stress than the other types. The collapse mechanism and effects of the loading direction on collapse stress for the cellular Mg alloys were investigated from the viewpoint of bending, buckling and yielding of the struts. As a result, it was suggested that collapse for the cellular Mg alloys is associated with yielding of struts.
