- Abstract
- Last Wednesday night, while friends plonked themselves in front of a House repeat, I watched a conference live from Paris. There's no way my viewing choice would have ever been screened by a network, yet I was in programming heaven. I was transported to the 19th arrondissement to a huge converted warehouse, formerly the city mortuary, in which the world's leading internet entrepreneurs were gathered. 'LeWeb', now in its fifth year, was a testament to how far the live web has come. From the comfort of my home and without jetlag or the headache of the 1500euro ($A2950) registration, principals from Microsoft, MySpace, Meebo, Google and a host of significant, emerging start-ups beamed into my study. I had a better view than the 1000-plus participants from 25 countries, who were squashed into a room which those blogging live from agreed was an unacceptable six degrees. Another complained about 'precious little food and WiFi'. From my cosy room, cup of tea in hand, I could not have been more engaged.
