- Author(s)

- Abstract
- Presents four scenarios ('new planets to explore') depicting the near future of e-learning in order to help trainers or 'e-moderators' deal with the uncertain and complex environment in which they operate; identifies the technology that is most pertinent to each 'planet' and what the main role(s) of the e-moderator will be on the planet. Describes 'Planet Contentous' (where Content is king and high importance is attached to, among other things, targeted Virtual Learning Environments and high capacity bandwidth), 'Planet Instantia' (where 'flexibility' and 'instantaneousness' are the keywords and where the Internet is always on and always everywhere), 'Planet Nomadic' (where learning is time independent and individual for mobile lifestyles) and 'Planet Cafelattia' (where learning is built around sharing knowledge through networked computing) and suggests that there is a very strong role for e-moderators in all these scenarios.
