Title: Universities as media organisations: a panel discussion

Abstract: The Internet has transformed the possibilities and helped to change the practices for universities as media organisations. This discussion explores two new media initiatives at the University of Melbourne: The Conversation, an online news and information service launched in March 2011, for which the university was a founding partner, and The Citizen, a new online publication to be launched by the Centre for Advanced Journalism in 2013. Jock Given spoke with the director of the Centre for Advanced Journalism, Margaret Simons, and the managing editor of The Conversation, Misha Ketchell, in Melbourne on 25 September.
