- Abstract
- In the study of aluminium honeycomb, it is essential to understand their behaviour under impact loading when they serve as energy absorbers. The in-plane dynamic behaviour of hexagonal aluminium honeycomb has been studied in this paper and ABAQUS/EXPLICIT has been employed to study the influence of the thickness of the cell wall and impact velocity on the deformation mode and plateau stress of the honeycomb. The cell wall of the honeycomb was modelled as shell elements and each hexagonal cell was defined as a single self-contact surface.
