Evaluation of the performance of AC pavements in local urban roads

Abstract

Observation of pavement defects in AC surfacings, in local roads, suggests that they appear on the pavement surface in some chronological order. The propagation of these defects within the pavement structure (surface layer) usually takes the form of a linear or quadratic function. This information permitted the development of a pavement performance/deterioration model (PP/DM-HDN) for AC surfacings in local roads. The performance concept is simple and can be easily adopted in other engineering and non-engineering fields. The PP/DM-HDN model is presented in this paper.
