- Abstract
- Italian-born journalist and migrant rights campaigner Ignazio Salemi temporarily migrated to Australia to help co-ordinate the activities of the Australian branch of the Italian Federation of Migrant Workers and their Families (FILEF) and his application for permanent permit to stay in Australia was rejected by the Government, causing Salemi to be become a prohibited immigrant. Salemi’s deportation resulted in the new breed of young FILEF activists leaving the organization because they found it difficult to find a place in FILEF without Salemi.
