- Abstract
- The coating of a metal with either another metal or a ceramic may provide certain improvements in surface properties. Plasma spraying is an extension of flame spraying which takes advantage of a greater power concentration to spray much higher melting point materials. From a bibliography of 37 references, the authors review the factors influencing the quality of thermally sprayed coatings. The bonding mechanisms of the coating to the substrate are discussed and methods of testing of coating adhesion, including metallographic techniques, are described.
