- The European Union is Australia's largest economic partner, but it is not generally well understood by most Australian lawyers, scholars and students. 'European Union law: an Australian view' gives a broad overview of the essential features of the EU but is then able to concentrate on matters of interest to Australians: comparison of features of the EU and the Australian legal system and legal issues in EU-Australia relations. This work is being designed specifically for Australian readers, and will concentrate on material relevant to them and can omit much of the detail contained in the mainly British-sourced texts presently used in EU Law subjects in Australia. The book leads the reader through the maze of EU law and provides them with the tools to use it. The authors have sought to give a sense of the political and historical factors affecting the development of EU law and some of the underlying theory. The reader is referred to more detailed sources where necessary. The European Union (EU) is Australia's largest economic partner, but for most Australian lawyers, scholars and students, its reality is complex. The EU is a single market, a new legal system, and a revolutionary approach to international cooperation. 'European Union law: an Australian view' is specifically designed for readers in Australia. The book gives a broad overview of the essential features of the EU and concentrates on matters of interest to Australians. This work is introductory and practical in approach and is divided into two parts. Part 1 introduces the EU and explains its complex structure, processes and outcomes. Part 2 examines the major legal issues that arise in the relationship between the EU and Australia. 'European Union law: an Australian view' provides excellent material for teaching EU law in Australian law schools. This book is also a valuable work for practitioners in this area of the law.
