Articulation at Swinburne: 'intersectoral in our approach'

Abstract

As a dual-sector University (combining both TAFE and Higher Education), Swinburne University of Technology sees the development of the interface between TAFE and Higher Education as a critical mission for the University. The most recent vision for the University, as captured in the 'Statement of Direction 2015' states: 'Swinburne’s staff and students will be: Entrepreneurial in their work, International in their outlook and Intersectoral in their approach. Through these characteristics, Swinburne will become a University recognised as being: Flexible in Learning and Teaching, Focused in Research and Engaged with Industry and the Community. This vision will be underpinned by a commitment to a sustainable Swinburne.' This statement clearly enunciates the University’s commitment to the development of the interface between the sectors of the University. The University also believes that the sectors are different, with distinct educational missions and, as such, the University has adopted a structure with separate Divisions for TAFE and Higher Education.
